A bunch of roses, heart-shaped chocolates and candlelight sets the scene for a traditional Valentine’s day with your significant other. But, if you’re on the lookout for something a little less traditional, here’s a selection of fun activities and canvas print ideas to give a whirl.

Galentines

Coined by Parks and Rec character Lesley Knope, played by Amy Poehler, Galentine’s is all about celebrating female friendships. In her owns words:

“Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies.”

Although the suggested date is 13 February to celebrate Galentine’s, the ethos of this day can be celebrated at any time. In honour of this day for ladies, Blake Lively shared a picture of her and a friend on Instagram with their high heel-wearing feet resting up on a coffee table  – this is the sort of image that represents this day. Get your best lady friends together and see what images spring to mind!

Family affair

Celebrate the love and bond of a whole family with a group photo. Spending some quality time with those nearest and dearest to you is the perfect way to celebrate love. It sounds cheesy but getting a group photo that captures who you are as a family is great for all involved. The results can be a lovely gift too!

The love of a good pet

Who deserves your love more than your best friend and ‘ride or die’ – your beloved pet. Whether your furry friend is a cat, dog or even a rat, be sure to spend the time (and master the patience) of capturing an excellent pet photograph. To really capture their personality, you will need to have your camera to hand over a long period of time to take a picture of them relaxed and happy.

Who knows? Your pet could be the next big Instagram star! Read our guide to making this a reality, while also honing your pet photography skills…

Show how much you love them every month of the year by giving them a gift of an image that means something personal to the both of you – one for each of the twelve months. At the end of the year, you can give them a collage print of all the images together.

As well as an image of them and one of the both of you together, make sure you include your favourite seaside spot, the café they love to get coffee from and even the spot where you first met!
