Let’s start 2016 with a bang, and when we say bang we mean by winning a photography competition. Whether it’s one of your New Year’s resolutions or something you’ve just always wanted to do, 2016 could be the year your photography gets the credit it deserves, not to mention be seen by thousands of people.

You may have missed some fantastic contests such as the Victoria and Albert Illustration Awards, but don’t fret, we have plenty more illustration competitions for you to enter.

From canvas prints and wildlife photography to illustrations and graphic designs, we’ve got a diverse range of contests, so you’re able to enter a one that suits your talents best.

Here at Parrot Print, to make things a little easier we’ve put together some of the best photography and illustration competitions that are taking place this year. We hope one of our fabulous readers takes home an award, so good luck!

The Book Illustration Competition
This competition is a unique partnership between House of Illustration and The Folio Society that seeks to indentify new talent in illustration, as well as promote them.

This annual competition is open to student and professional illustrators over the age of 18, who have not had work previously published by The Folio Society. Entrants are asked to submit three illustrations and a binding design for a book chosen by The Folio Society. This year’s book is War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. The winner will receive a commission worth £5,000 and to complete a total of nine illustrations and a binding design for the book, which is then published by The Folio Society. Five runners up will each receive £500. The closing date is January 18, 2016, and the guidelines for the competition can be found here.

International Illustrated Silent Book Contest
The town of Mulazzo and the International Organisation of Book Towns presents the third International Illustrated Silent Book Contest that is dedicated to silent books, which are books without words.

This competition invites authors and illustrators, who are over the age of 18, to be creative and design a book that tells a story through images on any subject that’s intended for a wide and diverse audience. The winner will receive 4,500 Euros as advance against royalties and a publishing agreement. The winning book will also be published by Carthusia Edizioni. Feature Shoot Emerging Photography Awards
If you prefer to create canvas prints or portraits, then this competition is probably better suited to you. This contest is Feature Shoot’s second international Emerging Photography Awards that looks for up-and-coming photographers who are ready to kick start their careers. Five winners will be provided with all the resources they require to get their careers off to a flying start. They will also receive $500, a gallery show in New York and other prizes. 52nd Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition
The Natural History Museum’s 52nd Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition is dedicated to outstanding images that raise awareness of nature’s beauty and fragility, while also showcasing the highest ethical standards in wildlife photography. This contest is divided into two categories; adult and young. The winner will be awarded with £10,000, a trophy and personalised certificate. The winning image will appear on the official website, in the BBC Wildlife Magazine and other international publications. Communication Arts Photography Competition
Celebrate 2016 in style by entering the most prestigious competition for creativity in photography, the Communication Arts Photography Competition. Any photo published or produced from March 2015 to March 2016 is eligible. Each winner will receive a personalised Award of Excellence. All the winning images will be distributed worldwide in the Communication Arts Photography Annual, which is available in print, online and on the iPad. The closing date is March 11, 2016. Joseph Binder Award 2016 – Graphic Design & Illustration Competition
The Joseph Binder Award Competition invites all designers, photographers and illustrators around the world, including students, to take part in this contest to showcase their best work. The theme is “What is your dimension?” and works completed between 2014 to today are eligible for submission. The winners will receive a trophy and a cash prize. Their work will also be published within a catalogue and presented in an exhibition. The closing date is April 17, 2016. To find out more information about the competition click here.
